Day 2- Atonement Insight

As it is fast Sunday today, I decided to research on the correlation of fasting and the atonement. The Day of the Atonement was a national fast ordered by law before the coming of Christ and foreshadowed the atoning work of Christ. It was instituted to provide an annual "remembrance of sin". When Christ performed the most important event of history "the atonement" in Gethsemane, cross of Calvary, and resurrection from the grave, the law was satisfied and sin is removed depending on our faith, repentance, and obedience to gospel principles. (see Bible Dictionary Fasting and Atonement)
Moses 1:39 "For behold, this is my awork and my bglory—to bring to pass the cimmortality and deternal elife of man." The whole purpose of the atonement is encompassed in this scripture. We fast on a monthly basis for our own souls, missionary opportunities, the sick and afflicted, to resist temptation, and basically any purpose aligned with bringing to pass immortality and eternal life of man. Fasting is observed to help align our will with God's will or a setting "at one" which defines the atonement.

  1. I like that, "at-one-ment". It really allows you to be put on the same page with the Lord our Savior. I forgot to fast today but will be fasting tomorrow. I love that your blog reminds me of the principles of the gospel--Faith in Jesus Christ and repentance!
